At Woodhouse Cross to the South of Higher Brimley is a granite direction post or guidestone believed to date from the early 19th century. It is located at the north-east corner of the crossroads. The guidestone was microchipped on 14th October 2005.
It has a lovely shaped top and is inscribed in capitals on all four sides thus: On north-east face is carved ‘TO BOVEY’, on north-west face ‘TO MANATON’, on south-west face ‘TO ILSING/TON’ and on south-east face ‘TO NEWTON’
